STOP USING YOUR PHONE INSIDE THE CHURCH

It has quietly become normal.

People enter church.

Sit down.

And immediately check messages.

Scroll social media.

Record parts of Mass.

Reply to chats.

And still claim they are “attending” Mass.

But something is missing.

Not in the building.

In the soul.

YOU HAVE ENTERED SACRED SPACE, NOT A WAITING ROOM

A church is not a public hall.

It is not a café.

It is not a content location.

It is a consecrated place of worship.

The moment you enter, the atmosphere changes—not because of the walls, but because of what is happening there:

Heaven and earth meet in the Eucharist.

DISTRACTION IS NOT INNOCENT DURING LITURGY

The issue is not that phones are evil.

The issue is what they do to attention.

Mass is not something you “multitask.”

It is participation in the sacrifice of Christ.

Every scroll pulls the mind away from prayer.

Every notification competes with grace.

And slowly, without noticing, the sacred becomes background noise.

THE ALTAR IS NOT COMPETING WITH YOUR SCREEN

At the altar, something eternal is happening.

The sacrifice of Christ is made present.

The Word of God is proclaimed.

Heaven is opened to the faithful.

And yet, in the pew, another world competes for attention:

notifications, images, conversations, distractions.

One leads upward.

The other pulls downward.

You cannot fully face both.

IT IS A QUESTION OF PRESENCE

The deeper issue is not the phone.

It is presence.

Are you truly present at Mass?

Or physically there but mentally elsewhere?

The saints were attentive because they understood where they were standing.

Before God.

Not before an audience.

A SIMPLE ACT OF REVERENCE GOES FAR

This is not about condemnation.

It is about awareness.

A simple discipline can change everything:

silence your phone before Mass begins,

keep it out of sight,

resist the urge to check it,

allow silence to return.

Because silence is not empty.

It is where God speaks.

You will not remember the notification you missed during Mass.

But you may remember the grace you almost missed because you were distracted.

The altar is not asking for your attention occasionally.

It is asking for your heart completely.
